Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleRichard Wax is a perfectionist. A designer and developer of some of of the most exquisite estates in Aspen, when it was time to build his own dream home, he turned his attention to Mount St. Helens in California’s Napa wine district in 2001 and purchased a 1941 estate that had been designed by Robert M. Carerra. Though the house was run down, Wax was impressed with the quality of the design. Instead of tearing it down and starting over, he completely restored, rebuilt and redesigned all 32 rooms, guest house and caretaker’s quarters. He then engaged Lifescapes International out of Las Vegas, well known for their landscape artistry, and had them redesign and install the fabulous gardens, now mature and lush. Taken by the complete privacy, seclusion and lack of jet noise, he knew it was where he and his wife would be happy. High on the side of a mountain and nestled in 20 acres of oak forest, views over the deep valley below are breathtaking.
The Mediterranean-style villa with its half-octagon layout and rustic red tiled roof are reminiscent of those in the hills of Provence, France. After the rebuild, the 14,000 square foot home has 10 bedrooms, six baths, a library, chef’s kitchen and two master suite towers on opposite ends of the structure. There are two massive imported Louis XIII limestone fireplaces, one in the great room and one in the formal dining room. It also houses a 13,000-bottle wine cellar but there is an area on the property that would also be perfect for a separate wine cave. Water is supplied by the town of Mount St. Helens, which is only five minutes away, but there are also two wells that supply two stainless steel water storage tanks that hold 410,000 gallons of water that is gravity fed to the house.
Napa estate named "World's Best California Property" in 2006 by London's "World's Best Magazine" was priced $22.5 million. Now going to no reserve auction May 22nd.
