Gas-Guzzling Hummers Now Green Homes?
Gas-Guzzling Hummers Now Green Homes?
If you happen to have 8 Hummers lolling around in your garage and driveway, finally someone found an innovative way to get the clutter off your property and the rest off the street! What we used to look at with envy when it passed us on the road, we now view with distain for the driver having the bad taste to flaunt such excess when so many are suffering the bad economy. Here's the solution! When all else fails, turn it into a house!
Displaying futuristic, mind zinging designs and certainly not short on awards and honors and beyond the cutting edge by light years, we find the architectural design firm of Craig Hodgetts and HsinMing Fung, HplusF. Established in 1984 HplusF is best known for their groundbreaking 1992 library at UCLA and the reborn Hollywood Bowl. After seeing what these folks have done, even if far-fetched, what we're taking away is reinforcing what we already know . . . that if you can think it, you can do it. Sometimes we need a little reminder!
Welcome to the HummerHaus! These modular living spaces range from bachelor-sized all the way up to a full community center! We're a little doubtful that we'll ever see one since all Hummers aren't exactly sitting in the scrap yard, but it does turn the light bulb on to a variety of knock-off possibilities. It's hard to tear oneself away from the plans of what they've created where all the comforts are covered along with clever use of all nooks and crannies. What we like even more is the eco-friendly mechanical systems relying on geothermal storage tanks, photo-voltaic cells, and soy insulation as well as 12 volt electrical systems, OEM refrigeration, heating, and media components.
The big question? What can we do to adapt some of these great ideas to improve our own living conditions? Hats off to HplusF!
