Based on the value of land, the richest state in the contiguous U.S. is New Jersey with an average value of almost $200,000 per acre – about 16 times the average U.S. rate. Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maryland round out the top five. At the bottom of the list are Wyoming, New Mexico, Nevada, South Dakota and Montana.
