The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission recently charged Robert Shapiro, CEO of Woodridge Group, of running a $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme selling bogus third-party commercial property loans to investors. Shapiro’s California home, Owlwood, was recently for sale at $180 million – one of the most expensive homes in the United States. The former home of Tony Curtis and Cher, the Tuscan-styled mansion has attracted several shady characters as owners including 20th Century Fox co-founder Joseph Schenck linked to an affair with a 21-year-old Marilyn Monroe who was living in his guest house. Shapiro bought the home in 2016 for $90 million.
