George Plimpton was a Renaissance man who seemed to be everywhere from the 1960s to the 1980s. He was expelled from high school but graduated from Harvard. He was appointed by President John F. Kennedy as U.S. deputy ambassador to the United Nations; participated in major sports, including the NFL as a backup quarterback, and then wrote about it in his best-selling books; was the longtime editor of The Paris Review; and was seen in many films—mostly as an extra or in a backup role. His longtime New York home with five bedrooms and about 4,700 square feet is for sale at $5.25 million. Located on 72nd Street in a series of row houses known as “The Black and Whites,” it was where George had many parties and events with friends such as Truman Capote, Paul McCartney, Andy Warhol, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The apartment is listed with Whitney Mogavero and Lisa Gustin of Douglas Elliman.
