In 1921, Paul R. Williams was the first Black architect to be admitted to the American Institute of Architects. When the Golden Age of Hollywood was in its prime from the late 1920s to the early 1960s, Paul Williams was the stars’ favorite architect. He was the best at designing luxury homes that fit their glamorous images, expected by theater goers. Some of Paul’s home-buying celebrities included Frank Sinatra, Tyrone Powell, Audrey Hepburn, Lucille Ball and David Niven. A Beverly Hills home that Paul designed for the mayor of Beverly Hills in 1938 is for sale at $42 million. Actress Ann Rutherford, who played the role of Scarlett O’Hara’s sister in Gone With the Wind, and her husband, William Dozier, who produced the TV shows Batman and The Green Hornet, were longtime owners of the home.
