Katharine Hepburn’s longtime home on Long Island Sound in Connecticut has recently sold. The original New England, shingle-style home was built for Hepburn’s parents in 1912 when Katharine was four years old, but was destroyed by a hurricane in 1938 when Hepburn was already an academy-award winning actress. Katharine had the home rebuilt in 1940 returning to the home for holidays and summers and full time the last seven years of her life until her death at age 96 in 2003. In 2004, New York developer Frank Sciame purchased the property and did a complete renovation and update.

The estate is located in the Old Saybrook borough of Fenwick; a neighborhood of 83 homes established in the 1600s where the Long Island Sound meets the Connecticut River. With views of the home’s dock, private beach, protective jetties and the Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse, the home is located only two hours by car from either Manhattan or Boston. Across from the home’s entrance are three acres of conservation land with a large pond. A nine-hole, links-style golf course and tennis courts are available to residents of the community.
