John Madden’s Dakota Apartment For Sale!
John Madden's Dakota Apartment For Sale!
We like good bones and great architectural details and this example of classic old New York certainly has it. It also has a fascinating list of celebrities rejected by the co-op board such as Gene Simmons, Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas, not to mention Billy Joel.
Built between 1880-1884, this historic building appears to be
North German Renaissance on the exterior but with the French en filade-style for the apartments. The homes were designed to have cross ventilation from the courtyard through to street side, which was rarely used during that period. Good thing too because just the thought of all that heavy Victorian clothing on a hot day in NY with no A/C is almost enough to make us faint dead away. The building is probably the most well known for the murder of John Lennon in 1980 for which the whole world grieved. His wife, Yoko Ono still has several apartments in the building.
John Madden is selling since he spends most of his time on the sunny west coast now. Finally retired after a lifelong career earning him the honors of being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006 in recognition of his coaching career and 14 Sports Emmy Awards for Outstanding Sports Event Analyst. Today he and his wife of 52 years, live in Pleasanton, CA, where in retirement will enjoy being with his family.
The Dakota - former home to many notables. Madden apartment priced at $4.4m
