Today Show Penthouse!
Today Show Penthouse!
Did you know that the Today show started in 1951? Wonder if that makes it the longest running TV show? Should! Baby Boomers probably remember seeing Dave Garroway hosting that morning TV news program while their parents were trying to catch up on the news and they were well into their bowl of cereal before heading off to school. Since Dave was the host, both Today and the world have gone through many changes. We wonder what he would think of the show today. Dave started in television long before specialized coursework was available. Instead, he took a course for announcers given by NBC and graduated 23rd in a class of 24. Dave was one of the first to offer conversational-style journalism to his audiences that made them feel like he was relating to them on a personal level. Dave fought depression for as long as he could remember without ever finding a cause or successful treatment. Few studies on the subject had been made at that time and he eventually committed suicide from a self-inflicted gun shot wound after bypass surgery in 1982.
Though Garroway made practically nothing at the Today show in comparison with today's salaries, at just under $400k a year, he was able to live in this glamorous penthouse in Greenwich Village. Butterfield House will wow you at first glance, but this penthouse with its light-filled rooms, glass-enclosed sun terrace and open entertaining terrace is sure to make you gasp. Actually, almost all rooms open out to terraces that bring the outside in along with light and evening summer breezes, not to mention the wonderful city views. The kitchen is a beautiful space to cook, enjoy terrace views and chat with family at the built-in banquette. With 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths, it's the perfect family home. The circular stairway leads to the large office-media room. There is a white gloved doorman and a resident manager on duty for your comfort and convenience.
Former home of David Garroway. Priced at under $7m.
