Jackie Gleason Auction!
Jackie Gleason Auction!
You'll be saying, "How sweet it is!" when you find out yours was the winning bid for Jackie's former Miami home! Yes, the "The Great One's" huge main home and personal entertainment guest house go up for auction on February 19th!
Back in 1964, Miami's city fathers were falling all over themselves when Jackie Gleason decided to move his television show from New York to Miami Beach to broadcast from the Miami Beach Convention Center. Jackie said it was because he could live on the Inverrary Country Club golf course where he could have quick access to the greens. But back then, Miami Beach was in its second heyday with big name stars around every corner, so it also placed him in close proximity to the entertainment movers and shakers of the time. That was when Larry King started his first broadcasts from the Surfside 6 houseboat docked in the waterway across from the Fountainbleu Hotel; when an invitation to a cocktail party might also mean an evening of small talk with Sammy Davis, Frank and Frank's dad; when Hollywood casting directors were interviewing and testing for the next generation's Elizabeth Taylor and Zsa Zsa was a regular at the Racquet Club. So though Jackie loved golf, having an endless stream of Hollywood contacts only gave further purpose to his move.
Jackie's house was huge. It was the epitome of mid-century Florida style and was cutting edge glamour at the time with its 9,250sf sprawling across almost an acre of prime golf course frontage. The house has 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and a screened pool deck. In typical Florida style both then and now, large expanses of glass bring the outdoors in. But Jackie needed a place to entertain his whirlwind of guests so he built the guest-party house to wow his friends and now you! This auction is further exciting since many items of Jackie's personal belongings and memorabilia will be auctioned as well.
"And awaaay we go!", to a celebrity auction that will have everyone standing up to take notice!.
