Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleEveryone agrees that the song must be Bing’s voice or it’s not Christmas! Next to Santa Claus, Bing Crosby has always represented a good portion of the celebratory part of Christmas through his music, TV specials and, of course, White Christmas.
Bing first became a December tradition back when the holiday season was less hectic, less commercial and a lot less complicated. Bing was singing White Christmas back when grandma baked cookies and made chocolate fudge and the best part was hanging around the kitchen scraping tasty morsels from the bottom of the pan. But life has changed and today grandma is more likely to be found at the local fitness center. These days Bing sings to harried working mothers feeling constantly overwhelmed while their kids clamor for an iPod 5 and a Macbook. Trees look more like they came out of Architectural Digest and the total cost of the season practically means taking out a second mortgage. Bing might be rolling over in his grave.
Interesting that while he first sang White Christmas in his NBC radio show on Christmas Day in 1941, Bing probably perfected the Irving Berlin song while sitting out by the pool at one of his former Palm Springs homes or playing a round of golf under the California palm trees. No cold winters and snow for him. Now his winter home is for sale and those with a hankering to escape the snows of the northern states can buy Bing’s house.
