Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleCall him Casey, Dutch or The Old Perfessor, the man was a one-of-a-kind gem with a quick wit and the ability to turn a booing crowd into cheers by tipping his cap and letting a sparrow fly out. Casey Stengel, legendary manager of the New York Mets & Yankees, was a crowd pleaser and great team manager even if he wasn’t all that great as an outfielder. According to him, "I was not successful as a ball player, as it was a game of skill." But as one of the top team managers in the sport, he enjoyed saying, "Managing is getting paid for a home run that someone else hits."
Stengel was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966 and by the time he retired in 1965, he had been a player, manager and coach on 18 professional baseball teams. He purchased his Glendale, California house for his retirement in 1965 and lived there until he died in 1975 at the age of 85.
For the first time in 30 years, Stengel’s 1925 Mediterranean-styled house in Glendale became available, only to be scooped up by Emmy nominated The Office actress Jenna Fischer and her husband, screenwriter Lee Kirk. With their one-year-old son, Weston, the 4,565 square foot house on .94 acres is the perfect house for a young family.
Since Glendale is a suburb of Los Angeles, Jenna and Lee will be close to work and the property has a lot of interesting yard for Weston to explore as he grows. There is an orchard and vegetable garden area, a tennis court, pool and lots of places to play hide and seek along with a 420-square foot summer house with fireplace. The garage houses 3 cars and has a connected maid’s quarters. Inside the main house are 5 bedrooms, 5 baths and 2 sitting rooms on the second floor bedroom level. The main level has formal rooms and a kitchen-family room combination with butler’s pantry.
Hall of Fame Manager Casey Stengel's Glendale home sold to star of the The Office for $1,900,000.
