Though it’s not apparent in her demeanor, Rita seems to always have been a trailblazer. It started with being born in Miami in 1953 when almost no one could say they were from Florida but only vacationed there. Even as late as the 1960s it was as though some unknown atrocity was going to befall the state at the beginning of every summer because the whole population evacuated to cooler climes. Everyone went back to where they were originally from.

Rita graduated from high school at the age of 15 and immediately went to New York to become a professional dancer. That she did on Broadway until she realized that there were so few comediennes versus comedians. Inspired by the comedy of Jack Benny and Woody Allen, she decided to make a career shift and her fans have been grateful ever since.

Now that she performs almost exclusively in Las Vegas, she and her husband and producer, Martin Bergman, don’t have as much time to spend at their Dana Point beach house in Southern California, so they’ve put it on the market. Aside from being totally charming and extremely private, the 5,000 square foot home has 5 bedrooms, 5 baths, disappearing glass walls and exquisite views of the Pacific.
