Own a Scottish Island!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleThe Scottish Highlands have always held mystery and enchantment with its forests, green hills, lakes and abundant wildlife. It’s where Queen Elizabeth and her family like to go to get away from it all and many films have been made around its castles and country homes. Many Americans boast of Scottish blood from their ancestors who arrived here as some of the first immigrants. We still hear bagpipes being played at important events, and plaid has always been an American favorite for winter wools.
For anyone interested in going back to their roots, consider the Scottish island, Tanera Mòr, in Loch Broom in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. At 766 acres, it is the largest and only inhabited island in the Summer Isles Archipelago. Naturalist-philosopher Frank Fraser Darling lived on the island between 1939 and 1943 and wrote about his experiences living on a remote island in his book Island Years, which was published in 1940. He described the social and breeding behavior of the red deer, gulls and the grey seal in his published academic works.
Tanera Mòr today has nine houses, six of which are rentable vacation cottages and has become a thriving tourist business. There are three jetties, fresh-water lakes and a deep-sheltered anchorage. The island has its own salmon fish farm, a small sailing school, a cafe and a post office that prints a Tanera Mòr stamp, much prized by collectors. The long summer days and the warm current of the Gulf Stream ensure Tanera Mòr’s seawaters make excellent fishing grounds and the warm clear waters enjoyed by beach goers and snorkelers.
Now for sale, all properties are sold as seen and furnished, with the exception of certain personal items. All island and associated equipment including vessels, machinery, post office stock and fuel supply are available by separate negotiation. An inventory is available on request. For more information.
Tanera Mòr, a private Scottish island made popular by author, Frank Fraser Darling, and now catering to the vacation trade, is currently for sale and priced at $3.280 million.
