The winner is George Vanderbilt’s North Carolina home, the Biltmore Estate, that was built in the late 1800s for about $6 million. Or about $184 million in today’s money. Also in the top three are Bill Gates’ Washington home at $145 million and L.A.’s Playboy Mansion at $113 million.
