California Island Home Gone To the Birds

Beginning in the 1800s, a home on Ano Nuevo Island, about 55 miles south of San Francisco, was the residence for the lighthouse workers and their families who were protecting the passing boats from the rocky shoreline. By 1948, the employees were pulled off the island and the lighthouse and workers’ home was abandoned. Today, the home is still there, but instead of people, the home has been taken over by birds and sea lions.
