Doris Duke was once the richest woman in the world. In 1935, she began construction of her Hawaii home that she called Shangri La. The 14,000-square-foot home was inspired by her trips to India and took 250 workers almost five years to build. Today, it is the Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design.
