Historic Long Beach Home – Saved from Demolition
Posted: October 26, 2022 | Source: www.compass.comA Long Beach home that was on the brink of destruction and was once listed for “free” has been saved, renovated, physically relocated, and is now for sale at $3.495 million. The Swiss Chalet Craftsman home was built in 1913 and was saved from demolition in 1989 through a “free home” ad in the local newspaper. The catch was that the home had to be moved from its location near the Long Beach Art Museum to its new home. After months of planning, lots of help from relatives and friends, and about $150,000, the home was saved and completely restored. During the restoration, the workers uncovered original Arts and Crafts-era tile, stained glass windows, built-in cabinets and quarter-sawn oak behind years of paint, false walls and paneling. The home’s listing agent is Loree Scarborough from Compass.
