Like many towns in North Carolina, McAdenville relied on the local textile mills to survive, but with a likely grim future. But then it discovered Christmas in 1956 and nothing has been the same since. About 600,000 people now visit the town of 665 people between Christmas and New Years to see the holiday displays. McAdenville home prices have benefited from the Christmas spirit.
