A Classic Boston Mansion for $23m!
Most people never get a chance to even see a building this remarkable, but now someone can actually buy it! Built in the French Academic style, the Ames-Weber Mansion is a stunning piece of architecture both inside and out. The size of the mansion is overwhelming with its 50 rooms and 28 fireplaces encompassing 26,000sf and built in 1872. The mansion was occupied for 90 years by the Ames and Webster families, and features a two-level conservatory, large tower and chimney and porte-cochere. In the ceiling above the four-story carved oak staircase is a stained glass skylight created by John La Farge, and there are murals painted by Benjamin Constant. In 1972, the manse was repurposed into boutique offices, showing the adaptability of the building to different uses. How fascinating to explore the rooms and view the masterful craftsmanship. It's amazing to think that back in the day, the fireplaces were used for heat and cooking was still done on wood cook stoves. How cold the house must have been in those Bostonian winters! Today, we're thinking it would make a unique and elegant building for spacious condos, keeping the grand entrance and preserving the artistic value. 50 rooms, 28 fireplaces, c1872 in Bostons's Back Bay.
