Bingo! Bing's Home Sold!
Though this property has always been referred to as the Bing Crosby estate, the original home belonging to Bing and his family actually caught fire from a Christmas tree and burned down. Bing wasn't home at the time and his family escaped unharmed except for the loss of the family dog. The house was rebuilt into the marvelous southern colonial mansion it is today, and has had many illustrious owners in addition to Crosby! We were surprised to learn that the estate was also the childhood home of Micky Dolenz, drummer and singer for the Monkees, as well as home to Andy Griffith and the Jerry Van Dyke family.
The property came on the market in 2009, listed at $10m, and finally sold last month for $4m. Exquisite in every detail, the 7200sf house sits on almost 2 acres of lawns, fruit trees and rose gardens with a long circular brick driveway. Further into the property there are two additional buildings: A poolside cabana with changing rooms, a sitting area and kitchen as well as a separate 2 bedroom 2 bath guest house with living room and kitchen. The main house features 6 bedrooms, 8 baths, luxurious steam shower in the master, billiards room, den with wet bar and 5 fire places to make one cozy where ever they choose to settle down. There's a wonderful outdoor kitchen with fireplace and top of the line BBQ equipment.
All in all, some fortunate family received the ultimate Christmas present this year! Previously listed at $10m . . sold for $4m!
