Brando’s Last Hideout!
Brando's Last Hideout!
Father of 14 and husband to three of his many lovers, Marlon Brando was honored by his professional peers as the fourth greatest American actor of all time. An Oscar-winning performer, his career spanned 56 years, during which time he made 44 memorable films such as On the Waterfront, Mutiny on the Bounty and The Godfather. He earned his infamous "bad boy" reputation through his unconventional lifestyle and public outbursts along with much criticism for the morally controversial film Last Tango in Paris. Most importantly from a professional point of view, he was credited with the rebirth of interest in the Stanislavski school of method acting, his signature style, which later became the standard teaching method in acting schools and universities across the country.
Though many of us still dreamily envision Brando on his private atoll of Tahitian islands, he actually spent his last years in this Sherman Oaks, CA single story home now owned by his long-term former housekeeper and lover, Maria Cristina Ruiz, with whom he had his last three children. Sitting on more than a half acre, this 5 bedroom, 4 bath home has 3,027sf and was custom built in 1939. The grounds have mature landscaping surrounding a separate guest house, pool, spa, tennis courts and a free-standing sauna. A major highlight is the diving board, which Brando hand-crafted for his children. A great home to raise a family with activity for the children and room to roam. We also joyfully note the round bed in the master and the world-traveler preferred bathroom fixture, the bidet!
