Dome Homes That Rotate!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleUnlike the U.S., the Europeans have been taking green living seriously for decades such as using timers on tank hot water heaters and timers on stairwell lighting and have been using on-demand hot water heaters years before these conservation methods were a twinkle in the eye of American engineers and product developers - certainly decades before the American public’s notice. They’ve also eaten food so fresh that the flower on the end of the squash at the market must be fully flowering for the squash to be fresh enough to buy and the thought of wasting electricity on a clothes dryer when sun is available, has been a no-brainer. Constant use of an oven has been much avoided by capitalizing on fresh salads, fruit and cheese for dessert and a quick saute on the top of the stove for everything else.
New on the American green home scene is the Domespace produced by the French company Solaleya. Now with an American branch in New Paltz, New York, only 90 minutes from New York City, one of these amazing rotating dome houses is now on the market. Taking the dome style a step further, this home can easily be rotated to take advantage of the sun’s warmth in winter or turn for shade in hot weather, making it doubly efficient.
The 40-ton wooden prefab dome was delivered in a kit from France. It took three months to form the motorized foundation and assemble. At over 3,000 square feet of living area, don’t let that measurement fool you; it looks huge. Walking in to 40-foot soaring ceilings with curved windows running from floor almost to the top of the ceiling on one side, the volume of space is made even more stunning with light, cheerful wood throughout, including the huge curved beams spanning the upward curve. Built on two levels and with a large deck surrounding one side and a balcony on the other, the house seems massive in size. The dome shape is cantilevered over a hill and sits on its rotating base with small footprint. It is impervious to earthquakes up to Richter Scale 8, and hurricane force winds to 155 miles per hour. The fact that the house is perched on its rotating foundation above ground level prevents dampness from entering the structure. The interior is an open floor plan with three bedrooms, three baths, with an office, library and guest room on the upper level accessed by a curving stair. The kitchen has sweeping views, granite countertops and is open to the main living area separated by a curved bar/island. For more information.
Now for sale, originally imported from France but now with a branch office in upstate New York, the three bedroom, three bath eco-friendly green home Domespace is priced at $950,000.
