Don King Sells Florida Mansion in 45 Days!
Even most Floridians aren't too familiar with the name or location of Manalapan, a well-kept secret with an interesting history. It's actually the beach for Lantana, Florida, in Palm Beach County and was incorporated as the Town of Manalapan in 1931 by Harold Vanderbilt, thought to be named after Manalapan, NJ. Don King knew what he was doing when he picked this property with the Atlantic in the front yard and Intracoastal in the back yard. He was also among other notables both past and present such as F. Lee Bailey, Loel and Gloria Guinness, Yanni, and a number of others; a lot of wealth to fit into 2.4 square miles! This was also the location of the disappearance of Circuit Judge Curtis Chillingworth and the place where the presidential yacht Sequoia was auctioned in 1977.
Don King and his wife, Henrietta, purchased these homes for approximately $14.2m and they sold for $20m, making it one of the highest priced beachfront sales in the last 3 years. Having purchased both houses separately in 1999, the properties were joined to make a large enclave with pool, cabana and bar as well as a tennis court. The double purchase also provided double dockage on the Intracoastal as well. We're a bit taken aback by the extremely ornate foyer with it's marble, grand chandelier, large baroque type furnishings when the remainder of the house appears to be clean lined and furnished as a contemporary beach home.
We've decided it sold quickly due to its excellent location that so far, has provided security and privacy by staying under the radar of the press. . . at least until today!
