Elizabeth Taylor Home For Sale!
Purchased in 1981 from Nancy Sinatra, it was sold with all furnishings including eighteenth century English antiques, expensive French Aubusson carpets, and one of the world's foremost Impressionist art collections, then hanging on crisp white walls. With her penchant for the color violet, we know that the upstairs master suite was repainted in violet and there were violet accents in other areas of the home. In later years, we believe she started using the downstairs master suite and turned the film viewing room into an office and the powder room into a sauna and bath opening to the pool area.
But Elizabeth's real love was the garden. She and her last husband, Larry Fortensky, were said to add $200,000 in plantings to the already beautiful grounds. Elizabeth designed the addition, adding a jungle garden and koi pond with waterfall along with many fragrant white and purple flowers. She spent many a long hour in her gardens enjoying the peace and inspiration they afforded. She said that those gardens spawned the ideas for many of the perfumes she created. This is the charming home in which she lived out her remaining 30 years.
This Bel-Air beauty overlooks tree top views of LA from its second floor master suite and is surrounded by privacy on the ground level by mature landscaping. The upstairs consists of a master suite with spa bath and dressing room and there are two other bedrooms. The main living level of the 7,000sf home has a second master suite, two additional bedrooms, maid's room, powder room, a large living room with beamed cathedral ceiling and wood burning fireplace. There is also a large galley kitchen, sitting room and dining room, all opening to the pool-patio area.
This is the home that made her the happiest and where she found so much peace and beauty. Since homes tend to absorb the love or lack of love of their previous owners, this will surely be a happy place for the next owner.
The one big question that has been present in the back of our heads for years, is how a woman with so much innate spirit and exuberance for life could have married John Warner after having experienced Richard Burton!
Liz's long-time home now available for $8.6m.
