Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleMan’s association with nature has run the gamut from fear of survival with the Pilgrims to understanding the necessary balance between the two that calms and opens up the human mind to higher achievement. This is the house that will be owned by a person who embraces and is open to all the exciting possibilities in life. Those who have the need to "protect" themselves surrounded by clutter and drawn drapes may as well stop reading.
Designer Steve Hermann has a deep connection with nature and its positive impact on stimulating creativity and expansive thinking. He also knows that being surrounded by clutter dims one’s clarity. Just like Frank Lloyd Wright, he believes man benefits from bringing the indoors out and the outdoors in, and that nature provides a perfect art gallery.
Hermann wanted to build "the most minimalist house ever designed . . where nothing inhibited the flow of light and space." The flow of light in this contemporary showplace is enhanced by the use of Starfire glass, rather than standard glass, for the solid glass exterior walls. Standard glass has color distortion you notice when seeing green on cut edges that darkens over time. Starfire glass is only one step down from pure crystal and maintains its super clarity. It is the same glass used in many jewelers’ cases and in the front panel of the best aquariums. Hermann’s choice of glass shows his keen desire for perfection in every detail, which is why the house took six years to build.
The setting for the 14,000 square foot house is a Live Oak forest understoried by ferns and boulders. The 3.5 acres has a simple green lawn from the house to the wood line so as not to interrupt the view to the architectural tree branches. The interior contains 5 bedrooms, 6 baths, a grand hallway and large wine room. The large gallery is an impressive venue for the display of works of art and is also large enough for the owner’s car collection of 32 cars. There is an attractive, slightly sunken outdoor living area and large covered terrace that add additional options for entertaining and enjoying the Santa Barbara weather.
Spectacular Montecito Glass Pavilion, originally priced at $35,000,000 - Now $13,990,000.
