Hampton’s Beach Box Home!
Hampton's Beach Box Home!
Though not new to the alternative housing niche, these clever folks have given shipping container homes a brand based on beach homes. Since most of us don't have a beach, we can still plop down a Beach Box just about anywhere. We've seen shipping container homes used for cabins in the woods, on floats for a houseboat, sitting on top of sky scrapers for an instant penthouse, and now at the beach!
Ecologically sound with the basic structure already in place, there is no end to what one can do with a shipping container and an acetylene torch. It just depends on what you want to pay. The Beach Box is a high-end collection of shipping containers for which careful plans were drawn and the container's window cutouts, wiring and plumbing pre-fabbed in the warehouse. With as much completed as possible, containers are then taken to the site and stacked by plan onto a pre-engineered foundation. By the end of the day, with a little help from a crane, . . Voila! . . an attractive 3-storey house appears like magic! Of course there are finishing touches afterwards, but all in all, it's a quick build for 2,000sf of house.
So don't be surprised if you start seeing some pretty groovy Beach Boxes popping up all over the country in the future. If this one is well-received by its many illustrious neighbors and sells in a timely fashion, you can be assured the Hamptons will be seeing more!
