Historic Maine Estate!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleIn 1765, John Peters arrived in the Blue Hill area of Maine from his birthplace in Andover, Massachusetts and became one of the area’s first landowners, acquiring 1,600 acres of land. Civic minded, he served in many roles including Blue Hill’s town clerk, but also had a variety of business interests including a shipyard, grist mill and was a founding trustee of Blue Hill Academy. It wasn’t until 1815, when he was 80 years old, that he built the home and created the estate historically referred to as the John Peters Estate on Peters Point. During the 20th century it was repurposed as an inn and resort and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. From an inn it morphed into an event venue and has now been put up for absolute auction.
The 1815 John Peters Estate on 22.3 acres with the classic Federal-style main house, two-story cottage, barn and all furnishings on five approved lots are all included in the sale. Beautifully located on the shores of Blue Hill Harbor with its own dock for swimming, fishing or docking boats, the estate has a swimming pool and room for horses and outdoor recreation. Between the main house and large cottage, there is room for 20 people with 15 bathrooms. Though updated for modern use, the historical features have been well preserved and all buildings show detailed attention to maintenance. The barn retains four horse stalls but the remainder has been upgraded to include two conference rooms, bathroom and a prep area for caterers.
