Eighty miles from Manhattan, the eastern tip of Long Island is home to some of the world’s most spectacular mansions, gorgeous beaches, and unique landscapes. Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleOne of the most iconic mansions in the Hamptons is the seaside estate known as La Dune, as seen in Woody Allen’s 1978 film Interiors. With 400 feet of beach frontage and two residences, the estate was previously listed for $150 million, the most expensive listing in the Hamptons' East End, is now set to be auctioned by Concierge Auctions. Bidding opens January 10th and concludes January 24th at Sotheby’s “Visions of America” event, a groundbreaking auction that will take place live at Sotheby’s New York.
La Dune’s main residence was originally built in 1892 and designed by Stanford White, considered the greatest architect of his era. The majestic home features a classic shingle-sided construction and 11,000 square feet across four stories. The home sits on a dune overlooking the white sands of Southampton Beach with views of the Rosa Rugosa dunes. The ten-bedroom mansion includes a spectacular formal entry and numerous decks and patios for catching the sea breezes. Big windows and high ceilings let in tons of natural light, while high-end materials and appliances provide the ultimate in luxury and comfort.
The 10,000-square-foot second oceanfront residence at the site was constructed in 2001 by esteemed architect-and-designer Francois Cartroux - whose clients included the Rothschilds, the Saudi royal family, and numerous aristocrats. He crafted the mansion to mirror the style and proportions of the original La Dune residence. Dark polished wood floors, white interiors with intricate moldings, bead boards, French doors, transom windows, and coffered ceilings enhance both homes. Each home features a gym and sauna, while the second residence includes a custom Altos movie theater and billiards room.
The two mansions span four acres of stunning landscaped grounds. Two gunite pools, a sunken all-weather tennis court, palatial courtyards, and private gardens offer ample opportunities for lounging and entertaining. The entire estate is surrounded by stately hedges for privacy and tranquility.
Southampton is the oldest English settlement in New York, originally founded in 1640. It is the largest community in the summer colony known as The Hamptons. Once a sleepy farming village, it began to develop as a resort town in the 1860s and is now home to some of the most expensive real estate in the world. Its residents include numerous celebrities such as Rachel Ray, George Soros, Kelly Ripa, and Howard Stern. Nearby options for entertainment include over twenty art galleries, a charming downtown shopping district, the Southampton Yacht Club, and the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club - one of the top ranked courses in the nation.
