Laguna Beach Historic Castle!
Laguna Beach Historic Castle!
Started in 1927 and completed in 1935, this fascinating property was built with wood where the owner picked each piece by hand to ensure its integrity. At 18,400sf, how long do you think that took? That's part of the fascination, but the history of the owner and the building is too. Originally containing 62 rooms now converted, it is still noted to have 18 baths. The grounds are elegant with lawns, fountains and large trees and have guest cottages and prime views of the Pacific.
Skipping from its heyday to today, the last owners turned some of the mansion into 16 apartments. Truly a castle in appearance, the drive up to the entrance is absolutely lovely and the grand staircase as you enter the foyer will send your imagination soaring! The windows on the ocean side have ocean views that will instinctively have you wanting to throw them open to sniff the salt air. The architectural features immediately makes one think of glamorous boutique residences that would be very harmonious with the Laguna Beach environment. We would have loved to see it in its original state when it was completed. Mr. Pyne intended to bring all of his relatives here to live, but history doesn't tell us if this ever came to pass. His wife left him after the first three months, so he needed company in this huge home.
Zoning permitting, the possibilities seem limitless for turning this amazing castle into something charming and elegant. With this huge price cut, it certainly sounds doable to us! Was $15m - now $9.995m
