Lake Minnetonka's Jimmy Jam House!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleInspiration for Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s epic poem, "The Song of Hiawatha," the first inland steamboat with electric lights, the site of a wild Minnesota Vikings sex party in 2005 that is known locally as the Love Boat Scandal, and "Lou," a giant sturgeon measuring more than 10 feet long, Lake Minnetonka has always been a lake of legend and imagination. Few may know that the country’s most iconic architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, was arrested there during a tryst with a woman who later became his wife, for violating the Mann Act.
Throughout its history, Lake Minnetonka went from the subject of poetry to a thriving tourist center with parks and amusements which also drew performers such as The Rolling Stones and Prince, who lives nearby. As the American West continued to provide new parks and tourist sites, the large tourist trade followed the sun and today the lake is surrounded by lovely homes with boating and great fishing. Not surprising that Minnesota’s own, record producer James "Jimmy Jam" Harris, would find it so attractive that he bought 3.2 acres of waterfront land in 1987. By 1991 he built his 22,598 square foot ultra modern home and lived there until 2007. That year he sold it for $7 million, but the new owner defaulted and the bank foreclosed.
On the market for only four months, the house has brought a lot of attention with almost 40 showings and two offers that did not make muster. Even with so much interest in so short a listing period, the bank has decided to let go and put it on the auction block. Though no minimum has been announced for this large five bedroom, nine bath mansion, rumor has it that the minimum bid will be $3.8 million. The home also includes 296 feet of lakeshore, a 12-car garage, 14-seat movie theatre, elevator, two nanny-care suites, a two-story master suite, indoor and outdoor pools, gym and game room, all secured behind a gated entry. For more information.
Auction time arrives on February 6th for Jimmy Jam’s stunning modern home.
