Lizard King’s Home Torched!
Lizard King's Home Torched!
Arsonists have been hard at work in Hollywood and West Hollywood of late. Seems like Jim Morrison's former LA home was one of the casualties, though was not severely burned, rather scorched on the front elevation. It seems that a Mazda Miata was set on fire on the street below the house and the flames rose to char the front of the house by the time firemen put it out.
This was the home that Morrison lived in with his girlfriend when he penned Love Street. The story goes that he was inspired by watching hippies strolling up and down the street from his balcony, back in the time when "free love" hit the country like a tidal wave and 20-somethings were awash in love through their peyote haze. Born in 1943, Morrison was best known as lead singer and lyricist for the Doors, though he was also a poet heavily influenced by the French existentialist philosophers. With a deepening dependency on alcohol and drugs, Morrison met an untimely death (some fans claim he is still alive, but just wanted to disappear) in Paris at the age of 27.
It's easy to understand Morrison's attraction to the 2,300sf house that is nestled into the hills with private indoor and outdoor living spaces. The interior has a moody, artsy ambiance that was highly sought after by the hippy generation that was preferred for fostering creativity. Even the tree lined street view is inspirational, reminding one of a village environment.
The House on Love Street was listed last summer at $1.2m and sold in July.
