Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleHungarian born architect Marcel Breuer studied and taught at the famed Bauhaus in Germany in the 1920s and fled the country with the onset of World War II. After he immigrated from Europe to America, Marcel taught at Harvard's School of Architecture working with students such as Philip Johnson and Paul Rudolph. In 1951, he and his wife purchased a New Canaan, Connecticut property, where he designed and built his family home. The house was extremely contemporary for its era and appeared in several publications including the New York Times and Holiday magazine.
In 1975, the Breuer’s sold the property and the new owners undertook a large redesign and renovation which was featured in Architectural Record Houses in 1981. Today’s owners engaged Japanese architect Toshiko Mori, who was chair of the Harvard Department of Architecture from 2002 to 2008. The earlier additions were removed and replaced with a steel & glass addition while preserving the design integrity of the original structure.
Now for sale, the 4,777-square-foot home sits on 3.11 acres with four bedrooms, six baths, 11'6'' ceilings in the main house and a Snaidero kitchen.
