Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleIt’s the House of Rant. At least one of them. When visiting Mel in his Costa Rican jungle paradise, Joe Eszterhas and his son Nick, among other house guests, were beneficiaries of one of Mel’s rants about Joe which Nick recorded, while Mel slammed things around the house screaming obscenities. Eszterhas was the man who wrote the screenplay for The Maccabees with Mel that never got off the ground. Joe quit the project and it was afterwards condemned by the Anti-Defamation League. Eszterhas went on to write a 9-page letter to Mel, later publicized, wherein he itemized details of Mel’s scathing raths. Later we heard recordings of more of Mel’s rants such as wanting to kill ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, hating Jews and praising the guy who killed John Lennon. Mel denied the accusations but his career was severely damaged.
Things may be getting financially rough for Mel to part with a property like this 500-acre beachfront jungle compound on the very private Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica. But with his dwindling movie spotlight, his divorce from his wife of almost 30 years, eight children and the latest judgement ruling $20,000 a month in child support for his youngest child, it’s not surprising that Mel needs to unload something.
Costa Rica was the original getaway outpost for semi-expat Americans when having an off-shore home became a practical alternative to Florida and California. Still rated by the Happy Planet Index as the happiest country in the world with safe streets, nice weather, good medical care and only a 2.5 hour flight to the U.S., it’s not hard to understand the country’s popularity. Mel Gibson originally put his tropical acreage on the market in 2010 for $35 million, but has just relisted it at $29.8 million. There are three homes in the compound with each of the smaller single-story homes having 2 bedrooms, vaulted ceilings, kitchens, verandas and their own swimming pools. The main 2-story hacienda-style residence overlooks the long, wide beach and has 7 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, a large courtyard and pool. All homes are separated from each other affording privacy for guests or extended family members.
Actor Mel Gibson has relisted his Costa Rica property with a price cut of $5.2 million, now priced at $29.8 million.
