New York's Dangling Crane!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleInconvenient it may be, but come now! It was a storm with wind gusts to 90 mph and they’re questioning why the crane at One57 fell over - at 1,004 feet in the air? Are they truly instigating a full-fledged "formal investigation" into something a fifth grader inherently knows? Is anyone else laughing? It seems that One57 has become the poster child for The Great Storm of 2012 and is receiving millions in worldwide publicity. But with some of the world’s richest 1% already lining up to pay multi-multi millions to buy at One57, it is publicity they probably didn’t need or want.
If there was anyone pre Sandy who didn’t know about One57, which will be New York’s tallest residential building upon completion, storm gawkers worldwide are now familiar with the striking curve at the top of the building sited to overlook the long view of Central Park. They most assuredly noticed the exterior walls which will be glass on completion and realize the mind-boggling view that will be enjoyed by the new owners, who will be members of what is now commonly known as the Global Billionaires’ Club. One has to be a billionaire to afford the duplex penthouse on the 89th and 90th floors that is under contract for over $95 million. Pricing on the remaining units run from $45 to $50 million. Many have been sold as investors from around the world have responded. Looks like even billionaires are perplexed over where to keep their money these days and many are putting it back into real estate. One57 includes new owners from the U.S., China, Canada, Nigeria and England. Less than 40 of the 92 units remain unsold, including four that have a full floor each, though one is expected to sell shortly to a Chinese buyer.
The safety concern was that the dangling boom would disengage and go flying down 74 stories, crashing into who knows what along its path to the street below. That’s why they evacuated the area. However, Sunday’s New York Times reported that workers hand-cranked the boom closer to the building and and were planning to strap it to the structure. They were hoping to be able to end the evacuation when that was accomplished.
One57 attracting billionaires from all over the world. As appraiser Jonathan J. Miller put it, "The scale of wealth in this building is just unheard of . . . "
