Ohio Pioneer’s Log Cabin!

Ohio Pioneer’s Log Cabin!

Ohio Pioneer’s Log Cabin!

Ohio Pioneer's Log Cabin!
It makes us smile from ear to ear when see that someone has loved and preserved something as important to our history as this 1795 hand-hewn log cabin that now sits in the middle of the Mount Washington neighborhood of Cincinnati. Of course we see it moved to a Thoreau-type setting where one could contemplate his essay On Man & Nature and ponder on what it was like to be a pioneer in those years.

Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For Sale

The cabin was originally built by Mount Washington founder, Stephen Sutton. A photograph of the original cabin, standing alone in a field, can be found on the cover of the out-of-print A History of Mt. Washington, authored by Stephen B. Smalley. Over the years, and exposed to the natural human nature to "improve" things, the cabin suffered the attack of every new building material that came out over the years. Fortunately the current owner who purchased the cabin in 1980, saw the value and with the help of her family and a handyman, started peeling off layer after layer until she got to the original logs. Re-chinked and secure, she started building back the interior with respect for the past but also with the livability of today's standards.

With 3 bedrooms and 1 bath, the cabin now has beautiful hardwood floors, wood beams, lovely built-in cabinetry and a cheerful eat-in kitchen. There is a brick patio surround, a full unfinished basement with concrete floor and a deck from which to view the pretty yard and attractive garden shed.

We're sure Stephen Sutton would be proud to see his cabin today! Priced at $159.9k.
