Oprah’s Big Apple Penthouse!
Oprah's Big Apple Penthouse!
No one really knows for sure whether it's Oprah's or Gayle King's, but we'll just go with MSNBC for now, which seems to believe the purchase was made under an LLC named for Oprah's deceased cocker spaniel. Regardless of who owns it, it's currently empty and is said to have rested in that state of loneliness for the last three years after being purchased initially for $7.1m.
Place 57 is an elegant boutique highrise that was completed in 2006. Condos in the building range from $1.47 million to $7-plus million. The Oprah-Gayle penthouse is on the 36th floor and has breathtaking city views as one would imagine. The terrace is 768sf of views and sunshine that pours into the living area through floor to ceiling glass. The interior has 2,530sf and offers 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths. Spectacular is the triangular shaped living room encased in glass with 12' ceilings. There are new walnut floors throughout and the open and airy kitchen is blessed with Viking appliances. The building itself is known for its Baccarat crystal lobby and garden that was created by well-respected designer Vicente Wolf. There is also a fully equipped fitness center, a themed children's playroom and a conference room. Its location gives ease of access to good restaurants and shopping.
Since Oprah spends most of her time at her Montecito, California estate and Gayle has two other homes, it seems understandable that she, she or they feel it's time to let this one go to someone who will end its loneliness.
Purchased at $7.1m, now listed at $7.6m.
