Original Playboy Mansion!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleGuaranteed to make your friends turn green with envy, you can now own an elegant slice of popular history in the form of one of seven vintage condos in the original Chicago Playboy Mansion! Though not as spectacular as the unit in this building that we showed you last year, it is still quite glamorous with large rooms, an impressive 13’ marble foyer, marble baths and herringbone patterned wood floors. The kitchen is sleek and updated with every possible upscale appliance, has an eat-on island and butler’s pantry. The home is 3,250sf with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. One of the bedrooms has been turned into a beautifully paneled den. This home is so perfect you’ll just put your furniture down and start living. Everything has been thought of for you.
The building retains its historical original features and the common areas and grounds are perfectly maintained by off-site management. Small pets (defined as cats and dogs, no mention of bunnies) are welcome and this unit has a terrace off the kitchen with invisible fence that would give any pooch the outdoor time he wants to loll in the sun.
Over a century old, this first Playboy Mansion is a French brick and limestone residence, which had been built in 1899 for Dr. George Swift Isham, a prominent Chicago surgeon and had 70 rooms. The home was thought to be on a scale far too grand for even a surgeon, so it was considered that the doctor may have been related to lawyer Edward Isham who practiced with Robert Todd Lincoln (son of President Lincoln), which may have explained his connection to wealth. The mansion was acquired by Hefner in 1959. During the early 1970s, Hefner divided his time between the Chicago mansion and the Mansion West, moving full time to the California mansion in 1974.
Hefner installed a brass plate over the original front door with the Latin inscription, Si Non Oscillas, Noli Tintinnare ("If you don't swing, don't ring"). Did Hugh take it with him?
