Romney's Car Elevator Home!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleCar elevators aren’t just a sideline for Porsche Design Group. The latest car elevator story comes from the direction of none other than current presidential hopeful, Mitt Romney.
Romney’s California beach house; one of the three residences he’s retained after two high-end property sell-offs, is set to undergo a major rebuild. The grapevine had been talking about possible plans to tear it down and start over, but now the schematics and preliminary plans for an entirely new home have been filed and a lobbyist paid $21,500, so far, to push the permits through. Romney has said that he doesn’t intend to start the rebuild until after the 2012 presidential election, but fact is that construction approval must be addressed by so many overlapping municipal agencies, it may take years to negotiate the hornets nest of red tape to acquire necessary permits to begin.
According to investigations by politico.com, it was requested by the Secret Service that the actual plans not be shared, however, many features are being shared such as the garage plans. The garage is intended to be a two-level affair which will house four cars. What places it in the forefront of current gossip, however, is that this garage comes with an elevator, referred to as a "car lift", that will transport the cars between floors. Aside from the Wonder Garage, the only thing to be left intact on the lot will be the oceanside lap pool. The existing 3,900sf structure will be replaced by a new 11,062sf McMansion which will include a 3,600sf finished basement and above ground panoramic views of the Pacific.
Though we’ve reviewed one outrageous and one controversial pair of car elevators this week, they are actually popping up all over the country these days; some that are powerful enough to transport large RV’s. After all, what’s left to improve upon after the outdoor kitchen and the in-house theatre? A car elevator, of course. Just because they can.
