Sedona’s Bright Domes!
Sedona's Bright Domes!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleSedona, Arizona is one of the most naturally colorful locations in the country with its red sandstone formations that literally glow in the light of sunrises and sunsets. Maybe all this natural beauty inspired the owners of this unique group of structures to add even more color to the landscape. One thing is for sure: It’s a home that will make you smile every time you arrive. Fun shapes and happy rainbow colors are guaranteed to delight your inner child.
The construction method is equally as interesting. It was developed in Utah in the 1960s as a form of alternative architecture by Paul Ream. Ream got together with engineering professors at Brigham Young University to create a unique building to house his general store. The result was "Ream’s Turtle," which ended as a huge dome. It started by blowing up a polychloride balloon, which can be maneuvered into any shape desired. Foam is then sprayed on the exterior with an overlay of steel wire. From there, four to five inches of concrete is added, making the structure exceptionally strong and protecting it from high winds and fire.
In the case of Sedona’s bright colored dome home, there are ten connected domes, each painted a different color, sited on more than 3.5 acres of land. Comprised of 5,000 square feet, different domes are allocated to different uses such as the theater dome with its perfect acoustics, the kitchen dome and the living room dome with large interior water feature along with domes for three bedrooms and three baths. Also on the property is a separate garage and parking facilities for RVs.
The home is a TV star in its own right and has been featured on "Extreme Cribs" and "Most Extreme Homes." For more information.
