Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SalePritzker Architecture Prize winner Richard Meier designed the Getty Center in Los Angeles, the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills and the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art in Spain. One of his first designs, the Smith House in Darien, Connecticut, is now for sale. Meier was only 31-years-old when he designed the Smith House in 1967 for Frederick Smith. In the 1980s, Meier returned to the home to design an extension on the east side.
The 3,930-square-foot three-level house with four bedrooms and three baths is at the edge of Long Island Sound with views across the water and its own private beach. Of course it contains all of the elements of his core design beliefs such as all white, geometric and with lots of glass, but this house has another special element - surprise. When entering the front door, one only sees the fireplace ahead. Nothing earth shattering about that. However, when walking ahead into the living room, the view of Long Island Sound is unexpected and dramatic.
The second level includes the living room, deck and master suite; downstairs are the updated kitchen, waterfront dining room and an ensuite bedroom. The top floor has two bedrooms with a shared bath.
The Smith House is now for sale priced at $14.5 million. The listing agent is Jack Trifero of William Pitt and Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s International Realty in Stamford, Connecticut.
