The House that Beer Bought!
The House that Beer Bought!
Though she spends most of her time in England, beer heiress, Daphne Guinness, apparently does use her 995 Fifth Avenue apartment to house some of her butterfly collection and take baths. Hopefully her England digs are on the ground floor since she seems to have a problem remembering to turn the tub water off. This has been quite a bone of contention with her downstairs neighbors, who after four floods, finally had enough and slapped her with a $1m lawsuit for damages and mental anguish! So now she's decided to sell. Probably not a bad idea.
Since being built in 1927, 995 Fifth Avenue (formerly the Stanhope) has undergone many a change in owner and change in names along with receiving much media attention from its popularity as a music venue, its wealthy residents and the high level of luxury provided. The location provides views of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park. It now contains 26 private co-op condominium apartments, private La Palestra Spa and breakfast lounge, library-conference room, 24 doorman, concierge, resident manager, wine specialist and bike room.
Daphne's apartment is 4,118sf with 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths. Due to the skills of decorator Daniel Romualdez, it has been the subject of much photography, including being featured in Architectural Digest. The New Yorker has also produced a video where Daphne takes one on a tour which includes the long mirrored hallway so often mentioned but rarely seen.
Priced at $14m, the monthly assessment is $17,950k!
