The Lighthouse Home!
The Lighthouse Home!
Built in 1831, Poplar Point lighthouse at the entrance to Wickford Harbor started out as a small one room house divided in the center with a chimney, allowing a fireplace on each side. There was a kitchen attached to the west side of the house with the lighthouse tower rising to 37' from the house's east side. Today it is considered to be America's oldest non-freestanding wooden lighthouse.
Having come a long way since its inception, Poplar Point lighthouse, though still on its 1.66 acres with the original spectacular water views, has grown from the original tiny structure into an elegantly appointed 4,563sf private estate. Colonial Revival in style, it is tastefully appointed throughout with 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths and has 3 fireplaces, a family room and a full unfinished concrete basement. The exterior has mature landscaping with rolling green lawns ending at water's edge, a 3-car garage and inviting swimming pool. There is also a floating dock for your boat and other watercraft.
Wickford, Rhode Island is a small coastal village of picturesque waterfront streets with quaint boutiques, shops, restaurants, art galleries and cafes. There are also many historical colonial homes and churches lending additional charm to the town. In addition, there are many community recreation facilities including golf and tennis. With excellent schools, medical care and healthy outdoor activities, it is a great community for raising a family.
