The “Marley & Me” House!
The "Marley & Me" House!
We saw this wonderful house for the first time on Christmas Day, 2008, and immediately fell in love with its charm. The movie having set a record in ticket sales, we're sure you know this house even before you look at the website! Equally as warm and fuzzy as the movie, this is the stone house of our dreams. It is the type of stone house that the better decorating magazines love to use in many of their layouts that propels our thoughts back to times when life may have been physically harder, but far simpler. Although it is 180 years old and likely to be there for another 180, the loving care it has received over those years renders it ageless.
Nestled on 15.8 acres of lawns, mature evergreens, hardwoods and flowering trees, you can almost picture a carriage coming up the drive to the house bringing your cousin who you haven't seen in so long. Since the house has 5 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, you'll have plenty of room for stay-over guests and plenty of rooms for them to enjoy. There's something about an old house that is calming. It's hard to say why that is, but here you will find details from the past such as the original stone fireplaces that are so large you could almost walk inside, and we see a lot of high end cast iron wood stoves that provide a warmer heat than today's furnaces and heat pumps. When this house was built, the walls were thicker than those of today and since stone absorbs and gives off the heat generated, we know this is cozy during the harsh winter months. Stone also gives off a coolness in summer, giving natural comfort. With additions added over the years, you will find a very updated kitchen though designed in keeping with the era of the house, and you'll love the claw foot tub in the master for long soaks. We love that it has a new cedar 50-year roof and new
Weil Mclean boiler! You'll have nothing to do but bring your furniture and a toothbrush!
Also on the fenced property is the proverbial red barn with 6 stalls for your horses and visiting horses. This is the perfect sized gentleman's farm in the historical Pennsylvania countryside and extremely well priced for such a manicured and well maintained country estate that is so conveniently close to Philly and Dover! Priced at $1.25m.
