The Mushroom House!
The Mushroom House!
Rescuing you from the repetitiveness of the same 'ol, same 'ol square rooms we take for granted and offering a refreshing boost to the spirit, nestled in a forest among ferns and a waterfall, the Mushroom House grows from the forest floor. So organic in appearance, architect James H. Johnson modeled this amazing home from a bouquet of 4 stems of Queen Anne's Lace, held in the hand so that each flower touched the other. The house was constructed for attorney-artist couple Robert and Marguerite Antell between 1970 and 1972 and was designated a town landmark in 1989.
Boasting 4,168sf, the house has 3 bedrooms and 3 baths, all with beautiful views of the woods. The residence was originally comprised four 80 ton pods (now 5), which rest on reinforced concrete stems of 14 to 20 feet in height. One pod serves as the living and dining area, one as the kitchen, and two as sleeping areas. There are even underground pods; a car pod garage and a mosaic lined tunnel that connects the pods. Still quite fashionable today with a 2001 addition of family room, updated baths, a gas fireplace and hot tub terrace by the same architect, the flow and structure blends seamlessly with the nature that surrounds it.
This is an extremely rare opportunity to own a beautiful, unique architectural icon, priced at $1.1m.
