Buford, Wyoming was a booming railroad town when the Transcontinental Railroad was being constructed back in the 1860’s. At one time it claimed as many as 2,000 residents and is the second oldest town in Wyoming. During its heyday, Buford was visited by Presidents Ulysses S. Grant and Franklin D. Roosevelt and the notorious outlaw Butch Cassidy. Over the years its residents began to move west, and in recent years has had only the one resident who is now ready to retire.
Located on over 10 acres adjacent to I-80 and halfway between Cheyenne and Laramie, the town has received a lot of media attention from news stories on CNN, MSNBC, NBC's Today Show and Time Magazine for being the only zip code in America with only one resident. But don’t ever expect to get lonely, as tourist stopovers number up to 1,000 per day during the height of the summer season. There are 5 buildings on the property consisting of the Buford Trading Post, which sells fuel, snacks and tourist memorabilia, a 3 bedroom modular home, a 1905 school house, a garage and a 1900’s cabin. The property will be selling with the existing inventory at time of sale except for household furnishings.
Open pubic inspections will take place on March 30, two hours before auction. Starting bid, $100,000.
