Versace $50 Million Clearance Sale!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleThe Jewel of South Beach, at one time ranked as the most expensive mansion for sale in the United States, has just dropped its asking price yet another $25 million. Now reduced from $125 million to $75 million.
Gianni Versace and family became famous as the go-to designers for fashion and sexiness in the late 1970s. His fashion headlines included Elizabeth Hurley's black with gold safety pins dress made famous on the red carpet at the premiere of then boyfriend Hugh Grant 's "Four Weddings and a Funeral" movie in 1994, and Jennifer Lopez’ infamous low cut green dress for the 2000 Grammy Awards. These two dresses not only put Versace on the style map but also catapulted Elizabeth and J Lo into the celebrity limelight.
Gianni poured his style into everything he touched, including Casa Casuarina, better known as the Versace Mansion, in Miami Beach. Here he created perhaps the country's ultimate temple to glamour and elegance. It was on the steps of his stunning South Beach mansion where he was shot down by a demented stalker in 1997 as he was returning home from his routine morning coffee and newspaper at a nearby cafe.
Rivaling the grand mansions of Europe but located on the wide Atlantic sands of South Beach, one of the most popular beach resorts in the world, Casa Casuarina is in a class of its own. Even with the new $25 million price reduction, it is still asking almost triple the price of any other home currently for sale in South Florida. New York Yankee’s star Alex Rodriguez recently set a record for the Miami area with the sale of his $30,000,000 ultra-contemporary 20,000 square foot estate.
Originally built in 1930, Versace bought the long neglected mansion and adjoining lot in 1992 and proceeded to create his dream home. After sinking at least $33 million into the restoration, the 23,462 square foot home with its 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, center courtyard and exquisite side courtyard was completed. He dressed the walls with hand painted murals and the ceilings with frescoes. The pool, with its columns, mosaic tiles and 24-karat gold lining is by itself a work of art. The Casa Casuarina mansion entrance where Gianni died is one of Miami Beach’s most popular photo stops for tourists.
Casa Casuarina was $125 million – then $100 million - now $75 million.
