It all started in 1939, when the grazing sheep flocks and lettuce farmers were disrupted by the new construction of Highway 6 that ran from Denver through the Colorado Gore Valley. Project engineer Charlie Vail managed the construction and his name lives on in Vail Valley, the surrounding mountains and the city of Vail itself. It wasn’t until well after World War II in 1962, that the Vail ski resort opened and received its first paying lift customer when the lift price was only $5 per ticket. The resort was so popular that the town began growing up around it. With the land formation almost mirroring that of the Swiss Alps, Vail is said to have a more European flair than its competitors. Today, Vail is a shopping mecca with excellent restaurants, festivals and cultural activities for the entire family. Most popular at Christmas, a sleigh ride to enjoy the Vail Christmas lights.

This 11,509-square-foot, seven bedroom, ten bath residence was built in 2009 high up in the exclusive European Village with ski-in/ski-out access. Its location was considered as the best in the area by the original founders, who also chose the location for their own homes. The architecture is a mix of both rustic and modern, with stone, wood beams and floors, glass and sweeping views of the valley, mountains and woods. The gourmet kitchen is equipped for entertaining and there is a game room, media room with concession stand and bar, a wine cellar and stone fireplaces throughout. Other luxuries include a pool, hot tub, sauna and steam with decks for outdoor living with fire pit. Priced at $30 million.
