John McAfee’s Home Insecurity!
John McAfee's Home Insecurity!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleThe country has followed British born John McAfee from his college days in Roanoke, Virginia through his startup of McAfee Associates in the late 1980s which propelled him to rock star status in the technology field with his McAfee VirusScan and the first Internet chat service, PowWow. By 1994 he tired of working 16 hours a day at his company and sold off his last shares two years after it went public, at which time his net worth was considered to be about $100 million. With his new freedom, he decided to enjoy all the things he had so far missed in life and set out to make his dreams come true. However when the world economy plunged four years ago, his worth dropped to less than $10 million. Prior to this, McAfee owned at least a dozen estates (he wasn’t sure of the exact number) spread out across North America, Fiji, and Belize. Immediately it became necessary for him to begin selling off these luxury properties, as he told ABC News in an interview, "to pay the bills."
In 2007, McAfee started auctioning his multimillion dollar homes and took massive losses. His $25 million Colorado estate sold for $5.7 million. He lost untold millions on his Molokai, Hawaii estate that took seven years to build and where he never lived. It sold at auction for only $1.5 million. Then came the auction of his spectacular 157-acre New Mexico property, which was the headquarters for his aerotrekking lightweight personal flying machine brainstorm, sold in two separate auctions. First, the 80-acre estate with a 3,500 square foot main house, two guest houses, pool and a private air hangar. After that sale, he then auctioned off the aerotrekking air park section where he had built a general store, cafe, movie theater and several hangars housing ultralight aircraft. Included was a fleet of antique cars for guest use. On the New Mexico auctions he suffered a stunning 90% loss. After divesting himself of so many luxurious properties, McAfee moved to his waterfront compound in Belize.
From software visionary genius with the world in his hands to currently being a murder suspect in Belize, John McAfee has run the gamut in eccentricity. All eyes will be on the news to see how his saga plays out in the end.
