San Francisco Contemporary!
Must SeeTop 10 Florida Condos For SaleCellist Joan Jeanrenaud and her husband, movie soundtrack producer Pat Gleeson, ruffled the feathers of their conservative Potrero Hill neighbors in San Francisco when they built their Industrial-style loft home, Kronos House, in 1989. All the chatter cooled down when neighbors finally realized that the home was an architectural icon appearing in "San Francisco Architecture: An Illustrated Guide to the Outstanding Buildings, Public Art Works, and Parks in the Bay Area of California" and "New Architecture: San Francisco," architecturally praised in the New York Times and featured in the film "The Joy Luck Club."
The talented couple engaged Maybeck Award-winning architect Daniel Solomon to design the house after seeing a design he had done for friends. Topped by a centrally-domed oculus, the black shingled structure rises several levels. The centerpiece is the tall window reaching 24 feet with a fireplace in front. The window is comprised of small square panes that is purposefully deceptive, making it unclear as to the number of floors. The paved garden courtyard has a water feature, statuary, abstract walls and plum trees with nighttime lighting. The 2,561-square-foot interior has three bedrooms, two baths, and a dramatic living and entertaining area with walls of gray-blue Italian plaster and perforated galvanized metal with dark hardwood floors. The three-car garage is accessed through the interior. For more information.
